Your building-to-building setup guide.

Use this checklist to plan your fiber kit connection. US kits are available in 150 m (about 492 ft) and 250 m (about 820 ft) lengths. Australia has the 250 m kit. Use the connection instructions included with your kit.

1. Prepare both buildings

The kit includes pre-terminated outdoor fiber, two Gigabit media converters with installed modules, two PoE injectors, two access terminal boxes, two yellow fiber patch cords, and two black Ethernet cords for the injectors.

  • Have a working internet connection and a spare Ethernet port on your router or switch.
  • Arrange power and protected locations for both media converters.
  • Provide Ethernet cables from your router and destination equipment to the PoE injectors’ LAN ports. Wireless coverage needs a separate Wi-Fi access point.

2. Measure your cable route

Measure the full path between your equipment, including the distance between buildings and any cable needed inside each building.

Leave extra cable at both ends for connections. Make sure the full route, including that extra cable, fits within the length you order.

3. Test before running the cable

  1. Place both converters in a protected area where you can test them together. Keep the cable loosely arranged and avoid tight bends.
  2. Follow the supplied connection instructions to link the converters using the fiber and patch cords. Use the active outer ports on each terminal box and remove the dust caps before connecting. Keep connector ends clean; do not look into fiber ports or connectors.
  3. Connect your router or switch to the source PoE injector’s LAN port with your Ethernet cable. Connect a test device to the destination injector’s LAN port.
  4. Connect each injector’s PoE port to its media converter using an included black Cat6 cord, then plug the injectors into power outlets. Check the power and link indicators described in the supplied instructions.
  5. Confirm that your test device reaches your network and the internet before installing the route.

4. Install, reconnect, and check

Follow your planned cable route and the installation instructions included with your kit. Keep connectors protected, avoid tight bends, and leave extra cable at both ends.

Connection order:

  • Main building: Router → your Ethernet cable → injector LAN port. Injector PoE port → included black Cat6 cord → media converter.
  • Fiber link: Converter → yellow fiber patch cord → terminal box → outdoor fiber → terminal box → yellow fiber patch cord → converter.
  • Second building: Converter → included black Cat6 cord → injector PoE port. Injector LAN port → your Ethernet cable → destination equipment.

After reconnecting, test the devices you intend to use. Gigabit describes the Ethernet link capability; your internet plan and equipment affect actual internet speed.

5. Keep a record for support

Save your cable length, route, equipment models, and photos of the finished connections. If a link does not work, note which power and link lights are on at each end and what happened during the initial test.
